Arts and wellbeing

Tasmania has a long and broad history of arts activities that have contributed to individual's and community sense of wellbeing, with alot of exciting projects and practice.

Since 2002, Tasmania Regional Arts and the Department of Health and Human Services(DHHS) and a...@work have been working collaboratively in the area of Arts and Wellbeing in Tasmania.

‘Arts Wellbeing’ in Tasmania recognises the immense value of the arts within a holistic approach to health and wellbeing that builds bridges between arts and health by promoting the benefits of creativity for the wellbeing of individuals and communities.

Imagine a theatre performance by people with intellectual disability from Cosmos in partnership with Tasmanian Theatre Company, a Radio Play working with teenagers at risk of homelessness or art created by people with mental illness accessing services at Launceston General Hospital, culminating in an exhibition titled “Inside Out”.

These Arts and Wellbeing Projects are just some of the diverse range of art making activities that can transform the lives of individuals through the creative process and their connection with others.

The Arts Wellbeing Network strives for more connected, healthier communities and individuals through a coordinated approach to arts, health and wellbeing in Tasmania. From 2009, Tasmania Regional Arts will be showcasing twenty good practice examples of Arts and wellbeing work on the TRA website with view to launching a publication later in the year.

This project was funded by the Tasmanian Community Fund. For more information, email wellbe...@tasregionalarts.org.au
